Rachel and Max's Bump session

Maternity sessions are one of my favourite sessions to photograph, be it at one of our Perth beaches, fields, parks, I love it all. Maybe it has something to do with my little baby coming but I think it mostly has everything to do with your scrumptious baby bump and documenting those last few weeks, celebrating that you thrived (or for some of us- survived) through pregnancy LIKE A BOSS!

Ive said this before but ill say it again, having your photo taken can be nerve racking but so worth it to capture these moments, photographs bring back the most wonderful memories and feelings don’t they!

So- here’s some easy tips for making your photography session fun and easy!

1. Choose a location around perth that means something to you! If you hate the beach, please dont choose to have your photos there! Do you love to hike or picnic together? Lets go somewhere you enjoy and I guarantee your images will hold even more meaning!

2. Wear neutrals and if you choose to wear patterns make sure they dont clash. Neutrals are timeless and if we are talking practically, will match most homes once they’re on your walls.

3. Get the bump out! Yep thats right, please im begging you, get out that beautiful bump of yours. These photos only take about 10 minutes at the end of the photography session but its so worth it! And dont worry I can bring an oversized shirt or gown to hide all the bits we all have but like to hide (goodbye cellulite) but show all the bits we love-like that scrumptious bump of yours!

4. Relax! Have fun! Sounds easy right? Sometimes its not so easy but just try to be present, enjoy the hour you have together documenting you surviving pregnancy like a boss and little Bub who is almost here.

I cant wait to photograph you and your bump!!

Perth field maternity session

Suns out, bumps out!! Thats the saying right?? Just kidding, but seriously- I was so excited when Suzi agreed to bare all and get her baby bump out into the sun for me to photograph. I am just so in awe of what our bodies can create and I LOVE to capture it. Theres something so inspiring and magical about a baby bump, flaws and all is what makes it so beautiful! Expecting mums I’m begging you, bare it all and let me photograph your bumps, you wont regret it, capturing your pregnancy is such a special way to remember this precious (and sometimes super hard am I right?) stage of life.

Boy was I glad to see sun, this was the only bright sunny day in what was our wettest July ever in Perth, so this usual sun kissed field was greener than ever which made photographing this family candidly so much more fun in such a natural fun setting. Suzi had an outfit change which I love, Suzi wore a beautiful maternity dress from Nothing Fits but matching with her daughter and then wore this beautiful Coven and co gown shown below, this has now become the first piece in our client wardrobe- which I am just so excited to launch along with our home studio early next year.

Newborn photography session tips

Very soon I will be launching our very own in-home studio, I’m busting to create a beautiful homely space you can bring your newborns too but until then I photograph in my beautiful clients homes across Perth using whatever corners with natural light we can find. Theres a few things you can do to help your newborn photography session run smoothly.

Feed right before your session and feed, change or comfort whenever you need to during the session. Trust me, if your Bub is hungry you’ll hear about it, and settling a very upset baby is a lot harder than taking 10 mins to feed and then getting right back into shooting. This is why I allow an hour and a half, sometimes more for these sessions.

Make sure you have a warm room. Babies start to fuss when they get cold so make sure you’ve got that heater set to a nice temperature.

Ill give you plenty of gentle direction so dont worry about that part, just come and bring yourself and your good vibes. If im not saying anything its because youre nailing it, we want natural and organic images but the process of getting there requires some gentle direction so we get the pretties images with the best angles and light. Have fun and enjoy this time with your newborn. This is such a beautiful moment, your little Bub will never be this little or be in this stage again so try not to stress if they fuss or cry, thats okay. All we need is little moments to capture. If you are authentic and having fun we will get images that reflect that.

Wear neutrals. This is not a hard and fast rule but theres nothing worse than looking fab and then realising the outfit you chose clashes with your partners. Choose neutral colours and outfits that don’t have any crazy patterns and you cant go wrong.

Yellagonga national park family session

I loved photographing this family as three becomes four, we had one day of perfect sun in-between days of rain, unusual for little Perth, winter here is often full of sunny days.

Family sessions are so much fun but can feel stressful at times without the right preparation and mindset, heres some tips to make sure you have the best time during your family session!

Just go with it- try to stop worrying and enjoy the moment with your family, your two year old might be running around rioting but thats okay! The most important thing to make beautiful photos, is to forget that we’re there to take photos, and just simply be in love and have fun with your family. I can’t make this happen for you. This is a result of you simply being happy with each other and excited for what’s coming.

Bribes go a long way! Look normally I might not advocate for bribing your children normally but for your family session it works a treat!! Maccas or ice cream on the way home works a treat to get a two or three year old to cooperate through a photography session when they would rather be running wild.

If the weather is looking average, reschedule! You only get to capture this moment in time and your children this age once. This lovely family below rescheduled their session twice due to rain and im so glad we didnt try to risk it because the day we were finally able to shoot ended up being the most perfect day in-between many days of rain.

Follow these tips and youre bound to have the best time during your family photography session!

After the session Cindy she shared “Oh my gosh thank you so so much for capturing us so effortlessly Amelia, especially with our crazy toddler in the mix. These photos are SOOO BEAUTIFUL!!!! We love them so much!!! Cannot wait to show my fam and friends and have these printed ASAP!”

Perth florists- Blooms of Eden have now become Studio Blume, a stunningly talented duo! I had so much fun photographing Studio Bloom’s beautiful wedding florals for a wedding ceremony at Assembly yard, one of Perth’s newest wedding venues. Sammy and Jess are are so talented at what they do, specialising in wedding floristry and transforming florals into artworks. Keep these girls on your watch list- there is absolutely going to be more amazing things to come from these talented gals. They are the Perth florists to watch, thats for sure!
