Cottesloe Civic centre pre wedding session

I have been a wedding photographer in Perth for over a decade now and Cottesloe civic centre is still one of my favourite venues in Perth for wedding portraits or engagement photos. Just scroll and you will see why, every inch is beautiful.

I get asked all the time, when is the best time to photograph the portraits on your wedding day or engagement session? The answer is simple, golden hour. I bet you can guess why it got the name, golden hour is the hour before sunset when the light is the softest, skin tones look the best and all the trees are glowing in the lovely soft light. Around an hour before sunset or as close to that as possible. If you cant do this then try set some time aside during your wedding reception to step out for ten minutes at sunset, it will be well worth it.

Family summer session at Trigg beach

Perth you did it again, I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect evening for a family photoshoot down at the beach.

For every family session my goal is to let your little one’s personalities shine through. I want to give you images that wholly represent you and capture the essence of the love you share together. Part of this is letting kids be kids, let them run, let them cry, let them be crazy or quiet, whatever there personality is- let it shine through. If that means I spend half the time trying to keep up with them or I'm quietly walking with them as they explore thats fine by me!

These little loves were so sweet, it was one of the hottest summer days in Perth but that didn’t bother them. It was over 40 degrees but I decided not to cancel hoping it would cool down as the sun set, and it did. Im so glad we went ahead, the hot day made for a balmy perfect summer evening down by the ocean. It was the sort of evening you spend down at the beach and want to remember forever, not a lick of wind and the warm water making it literally perfect.

Capturing the pregnancy journey | Perth Maternity Photography

Authentic, happy and just all round great people to be around, I am so lucky to have photographed this small part of Imogen and Brandon’s pregnancy journey. They are so full of joy for this next season but it would be amiss not to mention that these guys are some of the most resilient and grateful people I know, having gone through the unthinkable. Immy shares openly on her instagram about the loss of her first little baby boy Asher and their journey through this grief whilst navigating this new joy hand in hand. These guys are just incredible and it is so worth following their journey on @immi_walker_

The pregnancy/ motherhood journey is one of my favourite things to photograph because it highlights the pain, struggle, resilience and through it all- the beauty of motherhood and womanhood, and all it entails. These will be days we look back on, remembering how hard some parts were but also the beautiful joy that comes through it all. Im so honoured to be able to capture this.

Rachel and Max's Bump session

Maternity sessions are one of my favourite sessions to photograph, be it at one of our Perth beaches, fields, parks, I love it all. Maybe it has something to do with my little baby coming but I think it mostly has everything to do with your scrumptious baby bump and documenting those last few weeks, celebrating that you thrived (or for some of us- survived) through pregnancy LIKE A BOSS!

Ive said this before but ill say it again, having your photo taken can be nerve racking but so worth it to capture these moments, photographs bring back the most wonderful memories and feelings don’t they!

So- here’s some easy tips for making your photography session fun and easy!

1. Choose a location around perth that means something to you! If you hate the beach, please dont choose to have your photos there! Do you love to hike or picnic together? Lets go somewhere you enjoy and I guarantee your images will hold even more meaning!

2. Wear neutrals and if you choose to wear patterns make sure they dont clash. Neutrals are timeless and if we are talking practically, will match most homes once they’re on your walls.

3. Get the bump out! Yep thats right, please im begging you, get out that beautiful bump of yours. These photos only take about 10 minutes at the end of the photography session but its so worth it! And dont worry I can bring an oversized shirt or gown to hide all the bits we all have but like to hide (goodbye cellulite) but show all the bits we love-like that scrumptious bump of yours!

4. Relax! Have fun! Sounds easy right? Sometimes its not so easy but just try to be present, enjoy the hour you have together documenting you surviving pregnancy like a boss and little Bub who is almost here.

I cant wait to photograph you and your bump!!

Newborn photography session tips

Very soon I will be launching our very own in-home studio, I’m busting to create a beautiful homely space you can bring your newborns too but until then I photograph in my beautiful clients homes across Perth using whatever corners with natural light we can find. Theres a few things you can do to help your newborn photography session run smoothly.

Feed right before your session and feed, change or comfort whenever you need to during the session. Trust me, if your Bub is hungry you’ll hear about it, and settling a very upset baby is a lot harder than taking 10 mins to feed and then getting right back into shooting. This is why I allow an hour and a half, sometimes more for these sessions.

Make sure you have a warm room. Babies start to fuss when they get cold so make sure you’ve got that heater set to a nice temperature.

Ill give you plenty of gentle direction so dont worry about that part, just come and bring yourself and your good vibes. If im not saying anything its because youre nailing it, we want natural and organic images but the process of getting there requires some gentle direction so we get the pretties images with the best angles and light. Have fun and enjoy this time with your newborn. This is such a beautiful moment, your little Bub will never be this little or be in this stage again so try not to stress if they fuss or cry, thats okay. All we need is little moments to capture. If you are authentic and having fun we will get images that reflect that.

Wear neutrals. This is not a hard and fast rule but theres nothing worse than looking fab and then realising the outfit you chose clashes with your partners. Choose neutral colours and outfits that don’t have any crazy patterns and you cant go wrong.
